Creativity Explored: Unlocking the Artistic Mind
Creativity Explored is a nonprofit visual arts center where artists with developmental disabilities, create, exhibit, and sell art.
Creativity Explored Studio Manager and Visual Arts Instructor Paul Moshammer, who practices and exhibits professionally in the Bay Area and beyond, will talk about the dynamic of mutual influence in the Creativity Explored studio and its effect on the staff's work (and vice versa).
Creativity Explored was founded in 1983 by Florence and Elias Katz, on the principle that all people have the ability to create, and that visual artistic expression is a viable means to self-growth.
The open group studio environment of Creativity Explored fosters productive artistic exchange as studio artists work alongside one another and with mentor/staff artists, who demonstrate and encourage a variety of approaches and techniques. Artists from this pioneering center possess the level of talent, independence, and depth of feeling that makes the most powerful art possible. Yet, as artist with developmental disabilities, their work has not been widely seen. Learn more about the work of Creativity Explored artists, and the staff who've been assisting with the creative process.
Studio Manager and Visual Arts Instructor Paul Moshammer grew up in Vienna, Austria where he studied art. He moved to California in 1989 and joined the teaching staff of Creativity Explored in July of 1991. He became Studio Manager in 2002 and began supervising studio staff and activities at our main location. Paul has a strong interest in both printmaking and sculpture, but enjoys working in every medium. Paul has been teaching mural workshops at the Jewish Community Center and mixed media sculpture classes at City College. His work has been exhibited internationally at DESIGN-AUSTRIA in Vienna, and locally at Virginia Brier Gallery, Friday the 13th, and the SFMOMA Artist Gallery.
