Linden Tree presentation: November 12th (at) 7pm

Peter W. Pfau, AIA, principal of Pfau Long Architecture, Ltd. in San Francisco, has earned a reputation as a modernist who balances conceptual rigor with a love for building.  Peter was born and raised in San Francisco and established a passion for design and construction early in his childhood through training in the fine arts, and later, working as a woodworker, carpenter and contractor.  He started his college studies in fine arts at the California College of Arts and Crafts (currently CCA) and earned a B.A. with honors in Architecture from U.C. Berkeley and a Master of Architecture from Columbia University.

1n 1985 Peter was one of the founding principals of Holt Hinshaw Pfau Jones, a firm that quickly rose to international fame with the Astronauts Memorial at Kennedy Space Center, which was dedicated as the 25th National Memorial.

In 1991 Peter established Pfau Architecture, Ltd., an atelier-sized design firm in San Francisco. In 2008, the firm changed its name to Pfau Long Architecture, Ltd.  The firm does not specialize in a particular design or construction type, choosing instead to work on a range of projects including educational facilities, office buildings, restaurants, exposition and museum spaces, and single family and multi-unit housing.  Evident in the work is an underlying commitment to experimentation, and an appeal to the emotional and experiential lives of the user.

Over his 20-year career, Peter Pfau has been recognized with numerous design awards.  In 2003, Contract Magazine honored him as its 2003 “Designer of the Year,” stating that Peter Pfau is a designer “pushing the envelope in terms of materials, concepts, and processes in his passionate quest to establish the future of architecture and design in the Bay Area and beyond.”

The work of his firm has been widely published in magazines such as Architectural Record, the San Francisco Chronicle, Interior Design, Metropolitan Home, the New York Times, Sunset, SF Magazine, Metropolis, Interiors Magazine and many more.

Peter Pfau is an adjunct professor of Architecture at the California College of the Arts (CCA) and is currently a national “peer” for the GSA (General Services Administration) “Design Excellence” Program.
